BRITISH MUSEUM LONDON

The newly constructed wing of the British Museum - the World Conservation and Exhibition Centre - was furnished with an innovative GIG facade.

The extension to the British Museum which is located in the Centre of London, was built in the North-Western part of the museum.

The new wing consists of five pavilions where new exhibition spaces, offices and research facilities were created.

The scope of GIG's contract covered the entire building envelope with the exception of the stone cladding. The architectural highlight is undoubtedly the five metre long cast glass rainscreen facades, which are provided with a special surface. They were fixed to a steel cable and installed in front of the facade.

Bespoke doors were produced in the same appearance, so that in the closed position they fit harmoniously into the overall facade.

In addition, various fire curtains and sun shading system have been installed.
