Built on stone.
In January 2007, the planning commenced for the Mortimer Street project in London and just two years later, the multipurpose building, which has been completed as a classic gap-filling structure, was finished together along with its attractive facade.
The unitized front face of the building is combined with a stone curtain wall. This was technically most demanding and was entirely completed by GIG. The requirements of the London city authorities regarding the choice of stone were most strict and the French limestone originally preferred was rejected. Only after the presentation of six differing types of stone from three sub-suppliers was English limestone selected. Another tense moment was provided by the installation and programming of the fully automatic shading system on the rear side of the building, as the client and the building management could not agree on the details of its future tasks. Nevertheless, the project was successfully concluded just before Christmas 2009 and even the demanding oriel bays, which required a highly complex static and technical solution, were also completed satisfactorily.
